This is a little subjective post.
You should be using 127.0.0.1:8080 probably as the idea is to have it super decentralised… but you could use a gateway (check the list: Curated list of IPFS gateways ) and then hope that the client implement a plugin that rewrites IPFS addresses to localhost.
I prefer 127.0.0.1:8080, or even better: your very own gateway
Currently browser extensions redirect anything that has path starting with /ipfs to local gateway, so you can use any working one.
I’m using personal gateway which hosts only my content in links.
